Abstract

The use of hormonal contraceptives for a certain period of time can cause various side effects, one of which is changes in body weight. However, the weight gain is generally not too large, it varies from less than 1 kg to 5 kg in the first year. Most women from reproductive age who are acceptors of contraceptive users experience weight gain. Although hormonal contraception has various impacts on the reproductive organs and changes in body weight, hormonal contraception is one of the contraceptives whose use is increasing sharply. Based on the data on the distribution of the percentage of family planning participants who experienced problems with the contraceptive method used and the method used, it was found that the problem of weight gain in the injectable type of contraception was greater (2.6%) compared to the pill (1.6%), implants (1.1%) and IUDs (0.3%).
