Abstract

Background: Consumers of beauty products are often trapped into using risky cosmetics due to limited knowledge, low literacy, and the influence of promotion, particularly through online purchases. Objective: To increase consumer understanding of protection and awareness regarding counterfeit cosmetics. Methods: This community service activity was carried out through socialization, discussion, and simulation involving 30 female students at Mahardika Institute of Health and Technology. Results: The findings showed that 67% of respondents were users of skin-whitening drugs, while 50% did not know or did not take adequate legal action when experiencing adverse effects from beauty products purchased online. After the counseling, participants gained knowledge about harmful substances contained in counterfeit cosmetics, how to identify them, and the procedures for reporting illegal products. Conclusion: The program successfully improved consumer awareness and skills in protecting their health and safety from the risks of counterfeit cosmetics and unsafe beauty products circulating online.
